Couldn't have asked for a better show — slow-burn mysteries cracked open through psychology instead of gunfights are exactly my speed. The interviews with the killers are chilling, their calm refusals to admit guilt shot in the most unsettling, cinematic way possible. David Fincher at his best.
Matthew McConaughey was out of this world here — hands down my favorite performance from him, with Woody Harrelson matching him beat for beat. The story wasn't as intricate as I wanted, but the scale of it and that climax made up for it easily.
Nicole Kidman is the true definition of perfection here, she carries scenes just on presence alone. The whole cast honestly brings it, everyone feels fully committed to their roles. But the story itself is weirdly weird in a way that doesn't quite work in its favor. It's predictable almost from the start, you can see most of the twists coming from a mile away, and yet it still manages to feel oddly off in its pacing and choices. Great performances stuck inside a plot that never fully earns them.
Can they make this any more unrealistic. The protagonist barely runs into a shred of real trouble the entire time, everything just conveniently works out for him at every turn. And the police and the court system in this are basically a joke, nothing about the investigation or the legal side of it holds up to even a moment of scrutiny. For a show built around a wrongful conviction and a desperate manhunt, it needed way more friction and way fewer coincidences bailing everyone out.
First and last of its kind, honestly can't picture anyone doing this justice again. Nobody manifests Sherlock the way Benedict does, that quick, cutting delivery just feels like it was written for him specifically. The chemistry between him and Martin carries the whole show and does real justice to the books it's pulling from. What really elevates it though is how well the comedy is sprinkled in without ever undercutting the tension, it actually sharpens the calculative, almost mathematical way Sherlock thinks his way through every case. Every episode feels like watching a puzzle solve itself in real time.
Good, that's basically the honest verdict. The ending was genuinely bad and it dragged the whole show down in hindsight. Watching it through, it was fine, never once made me want to stop, but I still don't fully get the hype that follows this show around. Vikings did more for me, story for story. If the final season had actually stuck the landing with something climactic, I think my opinion of the whole thing would sit a lot higher.
Okay what the literal hell did I just watch. This might be the most realistic and intelligent storyline I've ever come across on screen. Every plan feels like it was actually thought through, and the way it keeps outsmarting itself season after season had me hooked the whole way. Michael's whole approach to breaking Lincoln out is just brilliant to watch unfold piece by piece. And the romance running underneath it all, kept so quiet and understated, somehow landed harder than most shows manage with a full blown love story front and center. Genuinely can't remember the last time a first two seasons of anything felt this tight.
Great storyline, and I got genuinely attached to pretty much everybody in this world. Ragnar's death is the most glorious I've seen a character go out — hasn't been topped for me. Ivar stepping into his father's shoes actually earned it, he carried that legacy well. And Lagertha won my heart exactly the way she was meant to.
Didn't know I could feel this way about a show. What did I even just watch. This is the first time I finished a series without getting emotionally attached to a single character, and somehow that's exactly what made it work — I was watching the chess match, not rooting for anyone. The character arcs are unreal, especially Walt's slide from mild to monstrous. And the villains actually feel like villains for once, not cardboard obstacles. Everyone's playing three moves ahead of everyone else, and you can feel the whole show thinking faster than you are.
Hands down the most warring, dysfunctional series I've ever watched, and also one of the best written. Everyone brought it — no weak links in this cast. Greg and Tom were pure gold together, I could watch a whole show of just them. Kendall's the one I was rooting for the entire time, genuinely thought he deserved the top seat. Siobhan though? Couldn't stand her.
The cinematography is genuinely brilliant, and that's where the brilliance ends. The film reaches for an eerie, unsettling tone and misses. The climax is weak. Daniel Craig plays a solid Blanc, but his performance alone isn't enough to carry the movie. At this point, the Knives Out series should be put to rest.
Vince Gilligan outdid himself here — the perfect successor to the perfect series, Breaking Bad. Bob Odenkirk's performance is bang on, and the character arc from Chuck's validation-seeking younger brother to a full-blown "criminal" lawyer is layered beautifully. The cherry on top, of course, is Tony Dalton as Lalo Salamanca.
Al Pacino's charm should be its own tier — that's reason enough to watch this. The story itself wasn't bad, but what really carried the film was the sheer acting talent on display: Pacino, Keanu Reeves, and a mind-blowing performance from Charlize Theron.
Haven't experienced anything quite like this before. Javier Bardem was terrifying to watch, and Josh Brolin nailed the rugged lone wolf energy. I was expecting a more gasping, dramatic ending than what I actually got.
